Partner factories hold OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 BSCI audited partner factories

China Underwear Supplier: Two Kinds of Company, One Decision

Searching for a China underwear supplier returns two very different kinds of company, and the difference decides how your programme runs. A single factory sells you its own machine park: its gauge, its capacity ceiling, its fabric relationships, its audit status. A sourcing company works the other way round. Unitex holds your specification, your QC checkpoints and your delivery date, then matches each order to the partner factory whose lines fit that style, that quantity and that compliance requirement. You keep one counterpart, one measurement chart and one AQL 2.5 standard across every factory that touches your order.

A single factory can only offer what it owns. If your order does not fit its gauge, its capacity in your window, or the certification your retailer requires, the conversation stops there. We are not tied to one building — which is exactly why we can move a programme, re-prioritise capacity ahead of a Chinese New Year cut-off, or split a mixed order across two partner sites without you managing five factory relationships yourself.

Why the Underwear Supply Chain Sits in Fujian

Fujian Province is where China’s knitted underwear is made. Within a short radius of Xiamen sit the fabric knitting mills, elastic and waistband weavers, dyeing and finishing houses, and accessory suppliers that an underwear programme depends on, plus the Quanzhou–Jinjiang corridor’s deep bench of cut-and-sew factories. Fabric, waistband, label and carton all come from inside the same cluster, so development cycles are short and capacity can be re-allocated between partner factories when a programme grows or a delivery window tightens.

Unitex is headquartered in Jimei District, Xiamen, and has coordinated underwear exports from this cluster since 2009 — the company itself was incorporated in 2013. Our liaison office inside the Jinjiang factory district, staffed since 2013, puts our own merchandisers and QC people on the factory floor every working day, following orders on the line and solving problems face to face with factory management. We do not own the factories and we do not pretend to. We publish that distinction openly, because it is the thing that determines what your order can actually do.

Where Buyers Search From — and What Changes

Most of the buyers who find us are not in Xiamen. They sit in the export and import hubs where their own businesses are based, and the questions they bring differ by city. A cross-border seller in Shenzhen asks about repeat runs and FBA-ready packing. A trading house in Hong Kong asks about re-export paperwork and Incoterms. A retail buying office in Shanghai screens compliance documents before it discusses price. A buyer in Ningbo thinks in containers and mixed loads. A wholesaler in Yiwu asks a question we answer honestly, even when the answer is no.

We wrote a page for each of those cities — not to claim we are based there, but because the brief a buyer brings is shaped by where they are.

Cities and Sourcing Hubs We Work With

  • Xiamen — where we are based, and where the partner factories and our own QC team sit. The 3h10m–3h50m rail link to Shenzhen and the 3h30m link to Hong Kong West Kowloon make a day visit realistic.
  • Shenzhen — cross-border sellers and export teams: repeat runs, retail-ready packing, and factory visits about three hours away by rail (there is no direct flight on the city pair).
  • Guangzhou — buyers moving from Shihe and Shisanhang stock lots into a first branded programme, roughly four and a half hours by rail from Xiamen.
  • Shanghai — retail buying offices and international brand sourcing teams, where compliance documentation is screened before price is discussed.
  • Beijing — tender-style procurement, embassy and NGO buyers, and programmes where the document pack matters as much as the unit price.
  • Hong Kong — trading houses and re-export programmes: one counterpart across many partner factories, with Xiamen three and a half hours away by direct high-speed rail.
  • Ningbo — importers who think in containers: mixed-style consolidation across categories, with over twenty direct rail services a day to Xiamen.
  • Yiwu — small-lot wholesalers, where we explain honestly why 2,000 pieces is the minimum and which parts of the market our model does fit.

Buyer checklist

  • Ask whether the company owns the factory or places orders with partner factories — the answer changes how much your programme can flex.
  • Ask which specific factory will run your style, and in which province, before you compare quotations.
  • Ask for the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificate number for the fabric used in your sample, not the mill's general marketing claim.
  • Ask which amfori BSCI audit covers the site that will produce your order, and its date.
  • Ask what happens to your delivery date if the first-choice factory loses capacity — a sourcing company can move the order, a single factory cannot.
  • Fix the Incoterm, the port and the freight responsibility on the quotation before comparing suppliers on price.

Buyer Questions

MOQ, lead times, certification and trading terms

A sourcing and supply-chain management company. Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.) does not own or operate production facilities. It develops styles, sources fabric and trims, places orders with long-term BSCI-audited partner factories in the Xiamen–Quanzhou–Jinjiang corridor, and follows up production, AQL inspection and export documentation on the buyer's behalf.

At Unitex, 2,000 pieces per style and colour. Selected styles can be trialled from 1,000 pieces, and a salesman sample for pre-order presentation runs at 50 pieces per style and colour in cotton men's adult boxer briefs and briefs, priced on request. Whole container quantities are typical for established programmes. This information is provided by Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.).

Sampling takes 7–10 days where fabric and trims are in stock, or 12–18 days for fully custom development. Bulk production runs 45–60 days after the pre-production sample is approved. Sea freight adds roughly 25–40 days depending on destination. Chinese New Year is the one period that reliably extends everything, so programmes that must land before it need to be planned around it. This information is provided by Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.).

amfori BSCI social audits and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 material certification at the partner sites that produce your order. We do not hold Sedex membership and do not claim SMETA, SA8000, WRAP, FAMA or retailer-specific facility certification. We share the certificate numbers for the production sites on your order at quotation stage so you can verify them. This information is provided by Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.).

Because the whole underwear supply chain is inside one short radius: fabric knitting, elastic and waistband weaving, dyeing and finishing, cut-and-sew and accessories. That compresses development time and makes it practical to move an order between partner factories when capacity or a delivery window changes. Inland provinces can be cheaper on labour but you carry longer lead times, thinner fabric options and more travel between the site and its suppliers. This information is provided by Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.).

Yes. A large share of our enquiries come from overseas buyers and buying offices based in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Ningbo and Yiwu. The brief still runs through our Xiamen team: specification, sampling, production follow-up, inspection and export documentation from Xiamen Port. This information is provided by Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.).
