This page is going to tell Yiwu buyers something they do not often hear from a supplier: for many of the orders this market runs on, we are the wrong partner. Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.) is a China-based underwear supplier producing through long-term BSCI-audited partner factories in Fujian, and our minimum is 2,000 pieces per style and colour. If you buy fifty or two hundred pieces of a style, the Yiwu market itself serves you far better than we can. This page sets out honestly where the line falls.
Yiwu Order Sizes and Why 2,000 Pieces Is the Honest Answer
Yiwu’s whole genius is the small order. A buyer walks in, takes a few dozen pieces of a style, mixes twenty styles into one load, and ships it to a market in Africa, the Middle East, South America or the CIS. That model depends on goods already being made — someone else has carried the tooling, the dye bath and the risk, and you are buying the output. It is fast and it works, and it is not what an OEM programme does.
When you ask a supplier to produce to your own specification, three fixed costs land on the order before anything is cut: the dye bath, the machine set-up, and the cutting spread. At fifty pieces they are spread across almost nothing and the unit price stops resembling a bulk price. At 2,000 pieces per style and colour, they are properly amortised and the number becomes real. That is why the minimum is what it is — not gatekeeping, just arithmetic.
The other reason is compliance. Unitex places orders with partner factories that hold amfori BSCI audits and use OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified materials, and those sites run production lines, not sample counters. A 2,000-piece order is the smallest unit of work that fits how they operate. If what you actually need is speed and variety at low volume, the Yiwu market is the right answer and we would rather say so than take an order we cannot deliver on time.
What Does Work from Yiwu: Repeat Styles and Mixed Loads
There is a real and growing segment of Yiwu business where our model is the better fit, and it is worth being specific about it. It is the buyer who has moved past one-off market lots into a repeating line: two or three men’s styles that sell steadily, a fixed size ratio, the same colourway shipped every few months. Once a style repeats, the economics change — and so does the quality problem. A market lot bought twice rarely matches itself, because the second lot came from a different batch. A produced order reordered against a locked measurement chart matches, and that is worth money in a market where returns and complaints are expensive.
The second fit is mixed loads where the whole container is not underwear. If you are already consolidating across categories, underwear from one counterpart slots into the booking instead of adding another supplier to manage. Men’s boxer briefs and briefs, women’s underwear, kids’ underwear and pajamas can all be marked per destination and split so the container de-vans straight into your customers’ flows.
The third fit is export documentation. If your destination market asks for an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 declaration on the fabric, a BSCI audit covering the production site, or a clean certificate of origin, a produced order can supply the paperwork and a market lot usually cannot. For buyers moving up into supply contracts or retail programmes, that gap is the whole decision.
The Trial Route: 1,000 Pieces Instead of 2,000
If you are near the line rather than clearly on one side of it, there is a middle step. On selected styles we run trial orders from 1,000 pieces per style and colour — half the standard minimum, enough to test whether a style, a fabric weight or a colourway actually moves in your market before you commit to a full programme.
Typical use is one style with real volume potential: a men’s boxer brief in a cotton-spandex blend, two or three sizes, two colourways, your own waistband label. You get a locked measurement chart and a sealed pre-production sample, so the next order repeats rather than re-invents. If the trial sells, the move to 2,000 pieces is a reorder at a better unit price, not a new development.
There is also a sales-side route: a salesman sample at 50 pieces per style and colour in cotton men’s adult boxer briefs and briefs, priced on request, so you can show or pre-sell a style before committing to production at all. It is a sales tool rather than a production order, and the unit price on 50 pieces cannot be a bulk price — but it lets you find out whether the style is worth a trial run before you spend on one.
Reaching the Fujian Factories from Yiwu
Yiwu to Xiamen is a comfortable direct run. High-speed services cover the route in roughly four and a half hours on the faster trains, which makes a one-day sample-room visit or a two-day factory trip straightforward. If your brief is still open, come and see the fabric wall and the measurement charts before you commit to a specification; it is easier to choose a fabric in the room than from a photograph.
If your brief is settled, the useful visit is the production site itself. Ask which partner factory your style is scheduled on and go there — seeing the line that will actually run your order tells you more than any showroom. Our liaison office inside the Jinjiang factory district has been on the floor every working day since 2013, so there is someone permanent on site between your visits.
One honest planning note: the trip is worth it only if your order is in the range this programme can produce. If you are buying at market quantity, save the fare and work with the Yiwu wholesalers you already know.

Buyer checklist
- Work out your realistic annual repeat quantity per style before enquiring — if it is under 1,000 pieces, market buying fits better.
- If a style repeats, compare the cost of a mismatched second lot against the cost of producing to a locked measurement chart.
- Check whether your destination market or customer asks for an OEKO-TEX or BSCI document; a market lot usually cannot supply one.
- Ask the supplier which specific style quantities qualify for the 1,000-piece trial before assuming the standard 2,000 applies.
- If your container mixes categories, ask whether underwear can be consolidated into the same booking with per-destination carton marking.
- Decide whether you need a salesman sample (50 pcs) to test the style first, or a trial run (from 1,000 pcs) to test the market.
