Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.)

Underwear Supplier for Milan Buyers: OEM Sourcing from China

Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.) is a China-based OEM underwear supplier for Italian brands, agents and private-label programmes, working through long-term BSCI-audited partner factories in the Fujian knitwear corridor. Italian law requires the fibre declaration in Italian — cotone, poliestere — and clearance through Genoa, La Spezia or by rail into Milan. Men's, women's and kids' underwear, MOQ 2,000 pieces per style and colour, FOB Xiamen.

Partner factories hold OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 BSCI audited partner factories

Milan is where the Italian apparel system makes its buying decisions, and the Italian system has two characteristics that shape a sourcing programme: labelling is enforced in Italian, and the market is built around a dense layer of agents, showrooms and private-label intermediaries rather than large direct-import retail departments. Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.) is a China-based underwear supplier working through long-term BSCI-audited partner factories in the Fujian knitwear corridor — men’s, women’s and kids’ knitted underwear, MOQ 2,000 pcs per style and colour, FOB Xiamen.

The Milan Buyer Base, and What It Asks For

A Milan brief usually reaches a supplier through one of three routes: an agent or buying office acting for several brands, a private-label programme for a mid-market retailer, or a brand running its own production office. In all three cases the person writing the brief is technically literate about knitwear. Lombardy sits next to the Como silk and knit cluster and the Carpi knitwear district, so an Italian buyer knows what a 40s combed cotton single jersey should feel like, notices a spirality problem in a tubular knit before it reaches the cutting table, and will specify the stitch density rather than describe it.

What that means in practice is that the sampling stage matters more here than in most markets, and the conversation moves to specification faster. An Italian programme tends to be smaller in unit terms and more demanding on the fabric: a private-label underwear range might be two thousand pieces a style, but in a specific yarn count with a specific waistband and a woven label the customer has already designed. Where a US or UK buyer often asks first about price and lead time, a Milan buyer usually asks first what fabric we can put in the sample.

The other distinctive feature is the agent layer. Because so much of the trade runs through agents who represent several brands, one relationship can open several programmes — and equally, a specification problem in one programme travels. That is a reason to be conservative on claims and precise on the numbers, which is how we write quotations for this market.

Xiamen to Milan: Genoa and La Spezia, or Rail into Lombardy

Milan is inland, and the two realistic ocean gateways are Genoa and La Spezia on the Ligurian coast, with Trieste increasingly used for cargo that continues by rail. Sea transit from Xiamen to the Ligurian ports runs in the region of twenty-eight to thirty-five days port to port on a direct main-line call, and door to door into Lombardy plan on about thirty-five to forty-five days. Genoa and La Spezia have both seen congestion at times, so booking ahead is worth more on this route than on a northern European one, particularly before the autumn and spring fashion deadlines.

The alternative that makes Italy different from the rest of Europe is rail. China–Europe freight trains run from inland Chinese hubs through Kazakhstan and Belarus and enter the European Union at Małaszewicze, continuing to terminals in northern Italy. Station-to-station time is in the region of sixteen to twenty-one days, with a door-to-door figure around twenty to twenty-five days — roughly half the sea transit at a cost that sits between sea and air. For a fashion calendar with a hard delivery window, that middle option is often the one that decides whether the range lands on time, and it is genuinely available from our side because the Fujian corridor consolidates into the same train network.

Air freight lands at Milan Malpensa, with Xiamen to Malpensa normally a one-stop routing of sixteen to twenty-four hours airport to airport. It remains the tool for a sample set that has to be in a showroom on a specific date.

Italian Labelling, Duty and IVA

Italian labelling is where this market punishes assumptions. Fibre composition follows Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011, which requires the generic fibre names with percentages by weight in descending order on a durable and legible label — but Article 16(3) of that Regulation lets each member state require its own official language, and Italy does, in combination with the Codice del Consumo. The practical effect is that the label must use Italian fibre names: cotone, poliestere, elastan, viscosa. The English words are not an acceptable substitute, and the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli holds shipments at the border for labelling non-compliance more often than for almost any other reason on textile entries. Italy’s labelling framework is implemented through the relevant national decree and enforced by the customs authority and the competition authority, with administrative fines that run from around a thousand to thirty thousand euros for labelling irregularities.

Care labelling follows EN ISO 3758 symbols, which are language-independent and need no translation, but the symbols still have to be present in the right sequence. Country of origin is not required by the fibre regulation itself, but it is declared to customs and any origin claim printed on the garment has to be true — this is the area where Italy enforces hardest, and a false Made in Italy claim carries penalties far above the labelling ones. If any part of your production involves Italian finishing or assembly, get advice before printing anything, because the statutory test requires several of the production phases to have taken place in Italy and is not satisfied by finishing alone.

On cost: duty on knitted and woven apparel from China is in the region of twelve percent under the common external tariff, and Italian IVA is twenty-two percent on the duty-paid value, recoverable by an IVA-registered business through its periodic return. An Italian EORI number, beginning with IT, is required, and entries are filed electronically through the customs AIDA system. The European Union has no de minimis relief for commercial imports, and since December 2024 Regulation (EU) 2023/988 has required an EU-established responsible economic operator and a technical file for consumer products. REACH Annex XVII entry 43 restricts azo dyes that release listed aromatic amines in skin-contact textiles, and underwear is squarely a skin-contact article.

What We Do, and What We Do Not Do

Unitex is a sourcing and supply-chain management company and owns no production facilities. We develop styles, source fabric and trims, place orders with long-term partner factories in the Xiamen–Quanzhou–Jinjiang corridor, and run production follow-up, AQL 2.5 inline and final inspection and export documentation. Compliance evidence is amfori BSCI audits at the partner sites and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification for the materials on your order, with certificate numbers shared at quotation so your team can verify them.

We state only what we can evidence — amfori BSCI social audits and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 at the partner sites; anything else a retail supplier code requires is confirmed per order. We do not describe ourselves as a manufacturer or a factory. For Italian buyers that distinction has a commercial edge: a sourcing company can move a programme to a partner line that suits the fabric and the quantity, which a single knitwear mill cannot. What we cannot do is give you a Made in Italy label, and we would not offer one — garments cut and sewn in Fujian are goods of China, and the label and the customs declaration have to say so.

Buyer checklist

  • Build the Italian label variant with Italian fibre names before sampling — this is the single most common cause of a held shipment into Italy.
  • Set the care symbols in EN ISO 3758 sequence on the label rather than relying on a symbol set you already use elsewhere.
  • Check whether the buyer requires any origin claim, and get advice on the statutory test before printing anything.
  • Compare Genoa or La Spezia against the China–Europe rail option on total landed cost for a time-critical range.
  • Register an IT EORI and identify the EU responsible economic operator under the General Product Safety Regulation.
  • Ask for REACH documentation on azo dyes for the skin-contact fabric, and keep the technical file current.

Buyer Questions

MOQ, lead times, certification and trading terms

Yes, for textiles sold in Italy. Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 sets the fibre declaration — generic names with percentages by weight in descending order — and Article 16(3) allows each member state to require its own official language. Italy does, so the label has to use Italian fibre names: cotone, poliestere, elastan, viscosa. English trade names are not accepted as a substitute, and Italian customs holds textile entries for labelling non-compliance more often than for almost any other reason, with administrative fines in the range of about a thousand to thirty thousand euros. This information is provided by Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.).

By sea, twenty-eight to thirty-five days port to port into Genoa or La Spezia, and thirty-five to forty-five days door to door into Lombardy once terminal, clearance and inland haulage are included. The alternative worth pricing is China–Europe rail: about sixteen to twenty-one days station to station and twenty to twenty-five days door to door, roughly half the sea transit at a cost between sea and air. Air freight into Malpensa is normally a one-stop routing of sixteen to twenty-four hours airport to airport. This information is provided by Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.).

Duty is in the region of twelve percent under the common external tariff for knitted and woven apparel from China, and Italian IVA is twenty-two percent on the duty-paid value, recoverable by a business registered for IVA through its periodic return. An Italian EORI beginning with IT is required, and entries are filed electronically. Since December 2024 the General Product Safety Regulation has also required an EU-established responsible economic operator and a technical file for consumer products, and REACH restricts azo dyes in skin-contact textiles. This information is provided by Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.).

No. Under Italian law a Made in Italy claim requires several of the production phases — design, cutting, assembly and finishing — to have been carried out entirely in Italy, and finishing alone is not sufficient. Garments cut and sewn at our partner factories in Fujian are goods of China, and both the label and the customs declaration have to say so. What we can do is develop and produce the product to your specification with Italian-language labelling; the origin statement stays accurate. This information is provided by Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.).

A large part of the Milan trade reaches suppliers through agents and buying offices who represent several brands, and we are comfortable in that structure. In practice it means we send a specification-level quotation rather than a price range, we keep the fabric and construction detail documented so an agent can defend it to a brand, and we are precise about what we can and cannot certify. We work in writing by email and WhatsApp, which suits a multi-party approval chain better than a sequence of calls. This information is provided by Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.).

It adds a review layer between the factory and the brand, so the sample may be commented twice before it reaches the final approver. That is not a delay in itself, but it does mean approvals take longer, and the schedule is built with that extra round rather than hoping it does not happen. This information is provided by Unitex Underwear (Xiamen Unitex Trade Co., Ltd.).
