Machinery & Bonding: What Decides Seamless Quality
Seamless is a machinery-led category: Santoni-type circular knitting and bonding equipment decide the hand feel and edge durability. We confirm the partner factory’s machine park and bonding peel-strength tests before sampling, because delamination after repeated washing is the category’s classic failure.
Construction limits are part of the conversation up front: circular knitting fixes the maximum body width a machine gauge can produce, so very high-rise or extended sizes may need a bonded side seam instead of a fully seamless tube. We flag these pattern limits at quotation stage, not after sampling.
Hand feel versus durability is a real trade-off: higher spandex content gives a softer, closer fit but demands stricter bonding control. We agree the spandex ratio and bonding spec at the pre-production sample and hold them on every reorder.
Laser-cut edges are checked at finishing: edge wave and fraying are the two visible defects of the construction, and both trace back to cutting calibration and fabric spandex content rather than stitching.

- Confirm the machine park first: seamless hand feel and edge durability are set by the circular knitting gauge, not by the fabric alone
- Ask for bonding peel-strength results, not just a flat fabric swatch
- Wash-test the pre-production sample several cycles, because delamination only appears after repeated washing
- Agree the spandex ratio in writing at the pre-production sample, since it trades hand feel against bonding control
- Inspect laser-cut edges for wave and fraying at finishing, where the defects actually show
- Check that sizes the gauge cannot knit as a single tube have been quoted with a bonded side seam
