Lace Quality Is Decided at Dyeing & Finishing
Lace quality is decided at dyeing and finishing: colourfastness and edge-curl are the two failure modes buyers report. We ask for lace dye-lot approval before cutting and run a wash test on the finished garment, because lace that bleeds ruins the whole body fabric in one wash.
Construction points we check at sampling: the lace-to-fabric join (zigzag or flatlock depending on the line), elastic tension at scalloped edges so the lace lies flat, and gusset attachment that does not tear delicate lace panels. Galloon-edge and Chantilly-look laces behave differently in cutting — galloon lace can be cut along the scallop to save a seam, while Chantilly-look usually needs a finished edge.
For private label programmes we approve the lace dye lot against your body fabric before cutting: a half-tone mismatch between lace and body is the most common reason lace styles get flagged at inspection.
Unitex runs its own liaison office in Jinjiang, on the ground inside the Fujian knitwear cluster, handling order follow-up, QC and factory audits. Buyer checklist
- Ask for the lace and the body fabric together on the same dye lot, not as separate swatches
- Wash-test the finished garment, because a lace that bleeds will ruin the body fabric in a single cycle
- Check scalloped elastic tension so the lace lies flat instead of curling at the edge
- Confirm the lace-to-fabric join (zigzag or flatlock) at the pre-production sample, since it changes with the line
- Verify the gusset attachment does not tear delicate lace panels
- Approve the lace dye lot before cutting starts, not after the goods are made
