Most supplier certification problems are scope problems, not forgery problems: the certificate is real but covers a different site, a different product class, or a period that has expired. This summary sets out exactly what OEKO-TEX Standard 100, BSCI and Sedex/SMETA cover, who holds them in our supply chain, how long they last, and the five-minute check that catches the common errors.

Certificate verification: issuing body, validity and the official check

Scope is where certificate problems hide, so this table lists who issues each scheme, how long it normally runs, and the official route a buyer can use to check a certificate independently. Certificate numbers and validity dates are always issued per production site and per product class, so we send the certificate naming your site with the quotation rather than publishing a single site’s paperwork on the website.

The five-minute verification routine

  1. Check the certificate number on the issuing body’s official portal, not on a PDF alone.
  2. Check the site name and address against the site that will actually produce your order.
  3. Check the product class: next-to-skin apparel has different requirements from outerwear.
  4. Check the validity dates cover your production window, not just the quotation date.
  5. Check the scope line for exclusions — a certificate that excludes the dyeing or printing step does not cover your fabric.

What we do not claim: Unitex is a Xiamen-based trading company, not a factory. We hold the specification, the quality checkpoints and the delivery date; the social and chemical certifications above are held by the partner production sites that make your order, and we pass the paperwork through to you. We do not claim SA8000, FAMA or Disney facility certification because those are not held for the sites we use.

How to use it

Ask for the compliance pack at quotation stage — the certificate must name the site that will actually produce your order and the product class must match next-to-skin wear.
