Most retail compliance failures are not fraud — they are missing evidence for the fabric or the site that actually produced the order. Work through this checklist before you place the order: it scores your readiness and lists the gaps in priority order.
Market-entry compliance self-check
What each item is for
- Fibre content (EU 1007/2011, US TFPIA) — the label must match a test of the actual garment, not the mill’s declaration.
- Restricted substances (REACH / OEKO-TEX Standard 100) — evidence must cover the fabric and product class you are shipping, and the certificate must be current.
- Social compliance (BSCI / SMETA) — audit scope is site-specific: a certificate for another factory does not cover your order.
- GPSR — since December 2024 the EU requires an EU-based responsible person’s contact details on the product or packaging for most consumer goods.
- PPWR — packaging composition, weight and recyclability data are requested by retail compliance teams ahead of the Digital Product Passport.
- Childrenswear — CPSIA, flammability and small-part rules apply in the US; sleepwear is the category most often tested.
- EU DPP — the data is produced during sourcing, so capturing it per order now is far cheaper than reconstructing it later.
Guidance, not legal advice. Requirements differ by product, channel and member state. Send us your destination market and product category and we will tell you which documents we can supply with the order.
